Cold-Pressed Seed Oils and Essential Oils

This collection groups the cold-pressed seed oils and essential oils our customers add to their daily body care routines. Most are single plant ingredients, pressed or distilled with nothing else added.

Black seed oil, pressed from Nigella sativa seeds, has a peppery, herbal smell. Milk thistle, cranberry, black currant and pomegranate seed oils are light oils pressed from small seeds, while sea buckthorn berry oil is a deep orange oil from the berries of a hardy shrub. Moringa and desert date oil come from drought-tolerant trees of Africa and Asia. Boswellia serrata and wintergreen essential oils, and our palo santo and copaiba blend, are used diluted in massage and body oils.

About Our Cold-Pressed Seed Oils

What cold-pressed means

Cold-pressed oils are squeezed from seeds or fruit mechanically, without chemical solvents and with little heat. This keeps the natural colour, scent and fatty acids of the seed. Black seed oil keeps its peppery smell, and sea buckthorn berry oil keeps its deep orange colour.

Using strongly coloured oils

Sea buckthorn berry oil is so deeply coloured that it can tint skin and fabric orange. Mix a few drops into a lighter carrier oil rather than using it alone, and let it absorb before dressing.

Storage

Seed oils such as milk thistle, cranberry, black currant and pomegranate are rich in delicate fatty acids. Keep them in the fridge after opening and use them within 6 to 12 months.

The essential oils in this collection

Boswellia serrata and wintergreen essential oils, and our palo santo and copaiba blend, are concentrated. Dilute them in a carrier oil before use on skin. Wintergreen is especially strong, so keep it well away from children.

Seed Oil FAQs

What does cold-pressed mean?

The oil is pressed mechanically without solvents and with little heat, so it keeps its natural colour, scent and composition.

Why is my sea buckthorn oil staining?

Its natural deep orange colour comes from carotenoids. Use a small amount mixed into a lighter oil.

Do I need to refrigerate seed oils?

It is not required, but keeping them in the fridge after opening helps them stay fresh for longer.

What does black seed oil smell like?

It has a strong, peppery and herbal smell, which is normal for an unrefined black seed oil.
