Wintergreen Oil
Common English Name: Wintergreen.
Botanical Name: Gaultheria procumbens.
Plant Family: Ericaceae.
Method of Extraction: Steam distillation of the leaves.
Origin: Indigenous to North America.
Plant Description: A small, evergreen herb with creeping stems, leathery leaves, white flowers, and red berries.
Main Chemical Components: Methyl salicylate.
Blends Well With: Mint oils, ylang ylang, and vanilla; carrier oils.
Uses: Stress Relief, Muscle Aches, Aging skin, damaged hair.
Fun Fact: Contains almost the same chemical components as sweet birch (Betula lenta) essential oil and can be used interchangeably.
Cautions for Use: Toxic, skin irritant, and skin sensitizer. It is advisable to use Wintergreen essential oil in blends or dilute it. It should rarely be used in its pure form.Wintergreen Oil
