Face Oils and Essential Oils for Skin

These face oils are light plant oils chosen for facial skin care, along with essential oils that are popular in face blends. Press a few drops of face oil into damp skin after cleansing, or mix them into your own serums and night creams.

Carrot seed oil has a warm, earthy scent and a golden colour. Terebinth oil comes from the fruit of the terebinth tree, Pistacia terebinthus, which grows around the Mediterranean. Geranium and tea tree essential oils are often added to face blends in small amounts. Essential oils are concentrated. Follow the exact product’s suitability and dilution guidance for facial use, and do not apply them undiluted.

How to Use Face Oils

How much to use

Two to four drops cover the whole face. Warm them between your fingertips and press them into slightly damp skin, either after cleansing or after a spray of hydrosol. Damp skin helps the oil spread thinly and evenly.

Morning or night

Face oils work at either time. In the morning, use a light oil and let it settle for a few minutes before sunscreen or makeup. At night you can use a little more, or layer the oil over your usual moisturiser.

Making your own blend

Start with a light base such as jojoba or prickly pear seed oil. If you want scent, add an essential oil such as geranium at about 1%, which is 1 drop per teaspoon of oil. Mix in a small dark glass dropper bottle and patch test before using it on the face.

Face Oil FAQs

Will a face oil make my skin greasy?

Not if you use only a few drops. Light oils absorb within minutes. If your face feels slick, use less.

Can I use a face oil with my moisturiser?

Yes. Apply the oil after the moisturiser to seal it in, or mix a drop into the cream in your palm.

Can I put tea tree oil on my face undiluted?

No. Tea tree and other essential oils should always be diluted in a carrier oil before facial use.

How should I store face oils?

Keep them in dark glass, away from heat and sunlight, and close the cap after each use.
