Clove Bud Essential Oil


The traditional spice can also be used to make a powerful essential oil with a wonderful aroma that can be used to treat damaged and oily skin. Clove bud oil is very high in antioxidants and thus can be added to other oils for this benefit. Clove essential oil has a sweet, spicy aroma that is favorable to many, and blends well with other citrus and spice oils.

Common English Name: Clove (bud).

Botanical Name: Syzygium aromaticum.

Plant Family: Myrtaceae.

Method of Extraction: Distillation of the buds.

Origin: Indigenous to Indonesia but cultivated in several countries worldwide including Madagascar, the Molucca Islands, and the Philippines.

Plant Description: A tall evergreen tree with bright green leaves, and long buds. The buds mature to a deep red color.

Main Chemical Components: Eugenol (phenols).

Blends Well With: Many citrus and spice essential oils, ylang ylang and lavender essential oils; carrier oils.

Uses: Damaged skin, oily skin.

Fun Fact: The buds are beaten from the tree and dried to produce the cloves used as a spice.

Cautions for Use: Skin sensitivity. Use in moderation only.
