Description
Tucuma is a clustering palm of the northern Brazilian Amazon and the Guianas, its trunks densely covered in long black spines. Because the trunk is hard to climb, riverside and rural communities in Pará and Amapá gather the egg-sized orange fruit from the ground under wild palms. The fruit is sold to local buyers and cooperatives, and the dark stones are sun-dried before being cracked for their kernels. This 1 litre bottle is a bulk size for makers of lotions, soaps, conditioners and lip balms.
