Essential Oils and Aromatic Botanicals

Browse essential oils and aromatic blends. Check each individual product for its botanical identity, ingredients and origin. Most are steam-distilled from leaves, flowers, resins or wood, and citrus oils such as mandarin and bergamot are cold-expressed from the peel.

The range runs from everyday oils like lavender, tea tree, lemongrass and rosemary to harder-to-find ones such as buchu from South Africa, leleshwa from Kenya, cistus, hyssop and African wormwood. Follow each product’s suitability information for diffusers or cosmetic formulation. Check dilution limits before combining with a carrier oil in a tested cosmetic formula. Essential oils are concentrated, so always dilute them before they touch the skin.

Buying guide

How to Choose and Use Essential Oils

  1. Read the label first

The botanical name tells you exactly which plant you are buying. True lavender is Lavandula angustifolia, while lavandin is a different, sharper plant. Some oils also list a chemotype, such as our rosemary (verbenone), which smells and behaves differently from rosemary cineole. The country of origin and extraction method complete the picture.

  2. Dilute before use

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts. For the face, a common starting point is about 1%, roughly 1 drop per teaspoon of carrier oil. For body oils and massage blends, 2 to 3% is usual. Patch test a new blend on the inner arm and wait a day before wider use.

  3. Store them well

Keep bottles tightly capped, upright and away from heat and sunlight. Citrus oils such as mandarin and bergamot change fastest and are best used within about a year of opening. Resinous and woody oils like patchouli and boswellia keep far longer.

Questions & answers

Essential Oils FAQs

Still unsure? Ask our team and we will help you choose.

What does 100% pure essential oil mean?

It means the bottle holds only the distilled or expressed oil of one plant, with no carrier oil, solvent or added fragrance. Each of our oils is labelled with its botanical name and origin so you can check what you are getting.

How many drops should I use in a diffuser?

Three to five drops per 100ml of water is a common starting point. Run the diffuser for 30 to 60 minutes at a time in a ventilated room.

Can I put essential oils straight on my skin?

We do not recommend it. Mix them into a carrier oil, lotion or balm first, and keep them away from the eyes.

Are your essential oils safe to swallow?

No. Our essential oils are sold for aromatic and external cosmetic use only. Keep them out of reach of children and pets.
