Where Bergamot comes from
Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a small, pear-shaped citrus fruit, thought to be a cross between lemon and bitter orange. The vast majority of the world's supply is grown in Calabria, in the south of Italy.
The essential oil is cold-pressed from the fragrant peel. Its bright, fresh and slightly floral scent comes from naturally occurring compounds such as limonene and linalyl acetate, and it is a classic note in perfumery and aromatic blends.
How to use Bergamot
- Add a few drops to a diffuser for its aroma.
- For skin, dilute 1 to 2 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil before applying.
- Keep away from eyes and never use undiluted on skin.
For external use only. Patch test on a small area before first use and stop if irritation occurs. If you are pregnant, nursing or have a medical condition, ask a healthcare professional before use.
