Lenticus oil is produced from Lenticus, more commonly known as mastic, is an ancient tree that has dotted the Mediterranean landscape for centuries. Trees are either male or female and both trees need to be present in the same vicinity for pollination to occur successfully.

 

The lenticus tree produces both an essential oil and a resin, known as mastic gum. Lenticus essential oil has a warm balsamic, spicy, woody, earthy aroma. It is classed as a middle to base note essential oil.

 

Common English Name: Lenticus, Mastic, Lentisque.

Botanical Name: Pistachia lenticus.

Plant Family: Anacardiaceae.

Method of Extraction: Steam distillation of the leaves.

Origin: Indigenous to the Mediterranean region.

Plant Description: A medium-sized, evergreen shrub or tree that loves to grow in rocky and dry landscapes. It has leathery leaves and produces small flowers. The fruit turns from red to black, if present.

Main Chemical Components: Pinene (monoterpenes).

Uses: Helps to relax, lubricates the skin for massage, soothes the skin.
