Ammi visnaga, commonly known as khella, is a powerful and potent herb which has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians made a tea with the fruit of Ammi visnaga and today a tea can still be prepared from a tincture of the plant.
The plant khella is related the Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota) and it is very similar in appearance. However, it is a lot more potent herb.
Khella essential oil has a deep earthy, slightly floral aroma which pairs well with citrus top note essential oils, or lemon-based essential oils.

Method of Extraction: Steam distillation of the seed.
Origin: Indigenous to Europe, Asia, and North Africa, although most of the essential oil appears to be produced from Morocco.
Plant Description: A small annual or biennal herb with long, linear leaves which are typical of the Apiaceae plant family. The umbel of white flowers is also characteristic. Khella grows from a central tap root.

Uses: Soothing for the soul, moisturizes and hydrates the skin, energizes the skin, promotes emotional well-being.
Fun Fact: Alternatively known by the name toothpick plant.
Cautions for Use: Avoid use with babies and children. Avoid use in pregnancy. Avoid use with blood thinning medications. Avoid long term use with kidney disease, The essential oil is photo-toxic; avoid use in sunlight and with tanning beds.
